Introducing Global Dialogue’s Polish Team

Jakub Barszczewski, PhD, teaches sociology at the University of Bialystok. His research interests include critical theories, sociology of the Global South, decolonial thought, counter-hegemonic globalization, and creativity. His doctoral thesis concerned Boaventura de Sousa Santos’ concept of counter-hegemonic globalization. He has published a book about the discourse of creativity in Post-Fordism.
Aleksandra Biernacka is a PhD candidate at the Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR), Theory of Culture Department, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences. Her current research concentrates on cross-cultural film remakes in the context of globalization, translation theory, history of ideas, and reception studies. She holds two MAs from the University of Warsaw – in Polish Philology and American Culture Studies.
Iwona Bojadżijewa graduated in sociology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She is currently working on a PhD thesis related to discourses on the environment. She is also working in the non-governmental sector, campaigning for better air quality in Poland.
Sara Herczyńska is a PhD student in the Institute of Polish Culture of the University of Warsaw. Her main research area is memory studies. She is a member of the Holocaust Remembrance Research Team and her PhD thesis is about Polish biographical museums. She is part of the editorial board of mała kultura współczesna magazine and a guide at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art.
Justyna Kościńska is a PhD candidate in sociology at the University of Warsaw. Her areas of study include urban sociology, social participation, social classes, and stratification. Her doctoral thesis concerns spatial accessibility of public services. Since 2019, she has been a coordinator of the Polish editorial board of Global Dialogue.
Adam Müller is a quantitative researcher, currently working as an associate for the National Institute for Information Processing. He has a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Warsaw. His current research interest is in the changing patterns of the higher education sector and applications of natural language processing to social sciences studies.
Weronika Peek is an English studies MA student at the University of Warsaw with a keen interest in sociology. Her research interests include cognitive linguistics, with special stress on conceptual metaphors, studies on discourse, and feminist literary criticism.
Jonathan Scovil is a PhD student in sociology at the University of Warsaw and École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in a cotutelle doctoral program financed by a French Government scholarship. His research interests include sociology of religion and knowledge, social anthropology, and history of ideas. His doctoral research concerns the European perception of jihadist terrorism, using the cases of France and Poland.
Aleksandra Wagner completed her bachelor’s and started her master’s studies at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw. Her research interests concern sociology of family, parenting, and marriage.
